Drive north 1 mile and then northeasterly approximately 25 miles (following signs) to Hart Mountain National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters. Park.

Walk 0.6 mile westerly on the main road to the turnoff to the appropriately named Petroglyph Lake. Hike to the lake in 1.5 miles. Proceed due north to the rim (1.1 miles). Set an easterly course for an unimproved way and continue on the way to Poker Jim Spring (Flook Lake quad) in 3.2 miles. Camp.

After detouring 0.3 mile to Poker Jim Lake to the east, set a course back to the refuge headquarters 5.5 miles southwesterly. You'll intersect Rock Creek, which will take you back to the headquarters.

Backpacking permits are required on the refuge.
