What to Expect: A long, gentle walk on a real trail

Distance: 24 miles round trip

Elevation Range: 4,700-5,260 feet

Drinking Water: Yes (always at Bean Cabin on the Pacific Crest Trail)

Best Times: Summer (wildflowers peak in June and July)

Oregon Map Starting Point: Ashland

From Ashland travel 16 miles east on OR 66 to Greensprings Summit. Go south on Soda Mountain Road (BLM Road 39-3E-32.3). After 3.8 miles (having gone under powerlines twice) is the Pacific Crest Trail trailhead.

Southwest 12 miles on the well-marked Pacific Crest Trail is Pilot Rock, where camp spots can be found.
